CA Dem Trying To Use Debunked Trump Tower Story To Re-Open Russian Collusion Investigation

A recent story by CNN reported a bombshell accusation that disgraced former Trump attorney Michael Cohen had proof that President Trump knew about and approved a meeting with Russian lawyers in Trump Tower. The purpose of the meeting was allegedly to get dirt on Hillary Clinton. Now, we know that story is a complete fabrication. Despite this, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) thinks it’s justification enough to reopen the Russian collusion case. Congress closed the books on this investigation months ago after coming up with zero evidence.

Swalwell recently made the audacious claim in an interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace. “It is clear that Michael Cohen was not truthful with the House Intelligence Committee, which is all the more reason that we never should have ended our investigation,” Swalwell said.

“It now sounds like, listening to Mr. Davis, that Mr. Cohen does have information about what candidate Trump knew about the Russians offering dirt on Hillary Clinton in the meeting they set up at Trump Tower,” he said.

But Lanny Davis, the attorney for Michael Cohen, admitted that the story was false and that he was the ‘anonymous source’ for CNN’s report.

“So Michael Cohen does not have information that President Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting with the Russians beforehand or even after?” Anderson Cooper asked Davis.

“No, he does not,” Davis emphatically responded.

But despite the false story, Swalwell still thinks this is justification to reopen the Russian Collusion investigation.

“The Republicans shut down our investigation. The best thing they can do for the country is reopen the investigation and bring these witnesses in under subpoena and allow us to look at the documents that third parties hold to test their stories,” Swalwell said to The Hill.

Democrats once again not letting facts get in the way of a potentially politically damaging story. Even if it’s a complete lie.
