A judge that was presiding over a couple of lawsuits that dealt with President Trump’s business agreements with foreign governments has recused herself.
District Court Judge Ronnie Abrams had to recuse herself because she is the wife of Greg Andres, who has now joined Robert Mueller as the Special Counsel.
Abrams abruptly recused herself with no explanation or warning to either the plaintiff or defendants in these cases. Which begs the question, why so late in the game? Recusals aren’t unusual, but they are in cases such as this when they have been ongoing for at least 6 months or more.
“The development comes as Trump’s legal team is looking into potential conflicts surrounding Mueller’s team, including the backgrounds of members and political contributions by some of the attorneys to Democrats including Hillary Clinton.
“Mueller was appointed as special counsel in May following the firing of James Comey as FBI director. Mueller, himself a former FBI director, has assembled a team of prosecutors and lawyers with experience in financial fraud, national security and organized crime to investigate contacts between Moscow and the Trump campaign.”
So it makes you wonder if the Trump team was planning to leverage this to discredit the Mueller investigation, which has become a major distraction.
