CNN host, Anderson Cooper went on an all-out rant against President Trump Thursday night about the reportedly “racist” remarks Trump made about countries in Africa and Haiti, reports Real Clear.
Trump reportedly said why should the U.S. take in more immigrants from “shithole countries” rather than nations like Norway in a meeting with both Republican and Democrat lawmakers about discussing immigration reform.
Cooper made the claim that what Trump is insinuating here is that Trump is tired of black people coming into this country and says why don’t we try to have more immigrants from Norway.
“The president of the United States is tired of so many black people coming into this country. Tired of immigrants from Haiti and Africa being allowed in,” Cooper said. “Tired of Africans and Haitians, the president said he would like to bring more people from countries like Norway. Norway, which population is overwhelming of Nordic descent. White people in other words.”
Cooper says he understands the argument that some are making that Trump’s comment is mostly to appeal to his base. The base that is, in Cooper’s view, “anti-immigrant” and wants stricter immigration laws in place.
Cooper continued with his berating of Trump saying that it doesn’t matter if these kinds of comments are acceptable among his base, and he believes they are racist.
“Perhaps the White House feels the president’s remarks will be well-received in some parts of this country, among some parts of the president’s base, and perhaps that is true but it doesn’t make what he said any less ignorant or any less racist. Not racial. Not racially charged, racist. Let’s not kid ourselves. Let’s not pretend or dance around it. The sentiment the president expressed today is a racist sentiment,” Cooper said.
